AVE -The Adventist Vocal Ensemble- was formed in 2002 in response to a need for a first-class broadcast session ensemble specialising in gospel/spirituals/classical/Jazz/hymn sacred music crossover.
The ensemble is bespoke, or, as the caption says, a "choir by design". In short, a client will contact director Ken Burton with a specific number of singers required for a broadcast, or recording, and the choir will be tailor made to suit the occasion.
The singers are current or former members of established and ongoing choirs, most notably the Croydon SDA Gospel Choir and the London Adventist Chorale.
The majority of the ensemble's work is on the BBC series 'Songs Of Praise' on which the ensemble has had appearances on over thirty unique songs; if one takes into consideration collaboration works with other choirs in large scale events, the number of songs would number in the seventies.
In addition to 'Songs Of Praise', the ensemble featured in 'How Music Works:with Howard Goodall' - for Channel 4 Television, and BBC Wales television's "Mike Doyle Show". The ensemble has shared many a morning on BBC Radio 2's 'Good Morning Sunday', presented by Aled Jones.
In 2007 after a flood of requests from viewers from UK to Australia, the ensemble recorded its first album as an ensemble; self-titled, the album is simply called "AVE".
Future broadcasts have been confirmed, as AVE brings its unique, colourful and multi-textured sound to the world.
